DEFINITION

So, fractangles – what is are they?

For me, it begins with the merging of the words fractal and rectangle.

......................................

FRACTAL

A fractal is a complex irregular shape in which any part resembles the whole thing.

......................................

This can be true on any scale. Small shapes can look like large ones, and large shapes can look like small ones, giving fractals a visually confusing property known as self-similarity.

Naturally occurring fractals include coastlines, rock formations, river systems, forests, ferns and lichens.

......................................

RECTANGLE

A rectangle is any four-sided shape with four right-angled corners, such as a square or an oblong.

......................................

Combining the two ideas gives you fractal rectangle.

Combining the words gives you fractangle: a self-similar object, space or shape consisting of rectangles.
